With a wonderful mother whose profession was chief food editor and test chef for a subsidiary of the Los Angeles Times, I spent a serious amount of time in the kitchen and learned early that it is in fact the most important room in a home. Now, a fortyish grownup myself, I carried this knowledge into my new 18-year-old house and decided that the kitchen was going to have to go…all of it.
